Join Ivy Circle alumni on Sunday 17 May for a relaxed, social & cultural walk in “green & royal” Apeldoorn.
Whether you already know a few faces or are joining solo, this is a low-key way to connect with fellow alumni outside the usual setting.
✨ Bonus: During this period, the gardens of Slot Het Oude Loo (historic castle/hunting lodge & gardens) are accessible—giving us a hidden spot that’s not usually open to the public.
We’ll walk through the Paleispark (the forested park area with brooks, ponds & boat houses) and the gardens of Slot Het Oude Loo, which are adjacent to Paleis Het Loo (royal palace and formal gardens). Expect a relaxed ~5 km route, plenty of time to talk, and drinks afterwards.
🚩 Meeting Point
13:15 – Entrance to Paleispark (next to the Stables): Apple Maps / Google Maps
This is the main assembly point for everyone—whether you arrive by car, bus, OV-fiets, or are visiting Paleis Het Loo (optional) beforehand. We will meet at the entrance to Paleispark next to the brick main gate to the Stables (not the main entrance at the carpark). Paleispark access costs €2.50 per person and can be purchased via a QR code at the park entrance/our meeting point. Please note: if you choose to visit Paleis Het Loo beforehand, entrance to Paleispark (€2.50) requires a separate ticket.
🚗 How to Get There
By Car:
– Park at Parkeerplaats Paleis Het Loo (main carpark on the Amersfoortseweg, daily rate €8.50). Walk through the Entrance Building/Museum Shop and cross the stable grounds to the brick main gate to the Stables on the far side, between the stable grounds and Paleis Het Loo.
– Parking may be limited on Sundays, so carpooling is recommended.
By Train + Bus:
– Arrive at Apeldoorn Station.
– Take bus 102 (direction Amersfoort), 112 (direction Nunspeet) or 304 (direction Zwolle) and get off at Gedenknaald (Loolaan).
– Cross the intersection/traffic lights towards Paleis Het Loo and walk along the brick path to the left (Koninklijk Park) until you reach the brick main gate to the Stables.
By Train + OV-fiets:
– If you have an OV-chipkaart with an OV-fiets subscription, you can rent an OV-fiets at Apeldoorn station.
– Cycle ~4 km via [suggested route]: Stationsstraat → Regentesselaan → (turn left at) Canadalaan → (turn right at) Kerklaan → (turn right at) Loolaan → (cross at intersection/traffic lights towards Paleis Het Loo, follow brick path on the left) Koninklijk Park.
– There are bike racks on the left just before the brick main gate to the Stables.
– Walk to the entrance to Paleispark next to the brick main gate to the Stables to join the group.
🎫 Optional Palace Visit & Tickets
– You can choose to visit Paleis Het Loo and its formal gardens beforehand at your own pace (highly recommended).
– Palace and formal gardens tickets cost €21 per adult (or free if you have a Museumkaart).
– If visiting Paleis Het Loo beforehand, please allow enough time for your visit and to make your way to the entrance to Paleispark next to the brick main gate to the Stables by 13:15 to join the walk.
🏞 Programme
13:30 – Walk starts (±1.5 hours, relaxed pace), meet 15 minutes beforehand.
Around 15:00 we’ll make our way back to Apeldoorn Centrum (by car, bus, OV-fiets) and meet at a café for drinks/snacks (cash bar), location to be confirmed.
Come for the walk, stay for the conversation, and maybe enjoy a little cycling adventure along the way if you choose the OV-fiets!
