Saab: From GM to Bankruptcy – An Insiders View of the Struggle to Revive an Iconic Brand

Saab Car

The Saab brand has inspired generations of drivers, from die-hard car afficinados to suburbanites for its lasting quality as well as its timeless and idiosyncratic designs. Known for their motto "inspired by jets" or later "find your own road", the originally Swedish company gained plenty of enthusiasm and a cult-like loyal followingthroughout the years, yet a takeover by GM in 2000 marked the beginning of the company's slow decline into bankruptcy in 2011.Despite numerous attempts to revive the brand, its future remains precarious; a recent purchase by National Electric Vehicle Sweden will only revive parts of the brand, leaving the famous Griffin logo off of future models.

To give us a unique insight into the ups and downs of the car-maker's recent turbulent period, the Tuck Club of the Netherlands has invited Rob Schuyt, former CRO and CFO of Saab Automotive AB, to speak to Tuck and Ivy Circle alumni.

Rob Schuyt is an experienced professional with more than 20 years of experience with global-turnaround and performance-improvement across a wide range of industries including telecommunications, media, technology, consumer products and retail, food, automotive, manufacturing and leisure. Prior to joining Alvarez&Marsal as Managing Director, Rob served as the CRO and CFO of Saab Automobile AB, the Swedish car company owned by Swedish Automobile of the Netherlands following its sale in 2010 by General Motors. Rob is a 1990 graduate of the Tuck School of Business (Dartmouth College).

Rob's presentation will be followed by a Q&A and borrel.
